Everything you wanted to know before the trip
Frequently Asked Questions
General
What makes Powder Nomads different from other travel companies?
We combine outdoor sports with authentic cultural experiences. Our tours mix skiing, hiking, and riding with local traditions, unique accommodation, and small-group adventures.
I’m a beginner. Can I still join your tours?
Absolutely! We have programs for all levels — from easy day hikes and cultural tours to advanced freeride and ski touring. Just let us know your experience and we’ll match you with the right program.
Can I combine different activities in one trip?
Yes — we can mix hiking, horseback riding, jeep tours, or freeride into one unique journey designed just for you.
How many people can be in a group?
We can organize tours for groups of any size, keeping a ratio of no more than 5 participants per guide.
Can I bring children?
You should personally assess whether your children are physically and emotionally ready for the tour. In any case, responsibility for them will remain with you.
Can I bring pets?
Yes! We love animals ourselves — we often hike with our dog Joy — and we are always happy to welcome four-legged friends.
Accommodation & Food
Where will we stay during the trip?
Depending on the tour: yurts, mountain huts, trailers, tents, or guesthouses. Each is chosen for authenticity and atmosphere.
What about food?
We cook hearty, homemade-style meals outdoors or in base camps. In cultural tours, we also include local cuisine in restaurants or with families.
I’m vegetarian. Will there be food for me?
Yes. Please let us know about your dietary preferences in advance, and we will adapt the menu accordingly during the tour.
Equipment & Preparation
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
For specialized tours (ski touring, backcountry) — yes, but we also offer rental gear. For hiking, trekking, and jeep tours, you just need personal clothes and shoes; we provide tents, mats, and cooking gear for renting (see our renting page for details).
What should I pack for a tour?
We’ll send a detailed packing list for each program. Basics: layered clothing, good boots, sun protection, and personal items.
Can I hire a porter or a horse for luggage?
Depending on the region, there are two options: a horse can carry either one rider with luggage, or the luggage of two people. A porter can carry up to 15 kg of luggage. Both are available at an additional cost.
Safety
How safe are your tours?
Safety is our top priority. All tours are led by certified local guides, we use radios and GPS, carry first aid, and for snow programs we provide avalanche equipment for renting and training.
Do I need insurance?
We recommend travel or sports insurance for all participants.
What if I feel unwell during the tour?
We always carry a first aid kit, but whether to take medication is up to you. If you have specific health conditions, we recommend bringing your own medicines.
Booking & Payment
How do I book a tour?
Just write to us with your preferred activities, dates, group size, and experience level — and we’ll create a program for you.
Can I order a custom tour?
Definitely. We specialize in tailor-made trips and can design an itinerary based on your wishes.
I’m traveling alone. Can I join a group?
No, we only create individual programs. Every trip is tailor-made for you and your group.
How can I pay?

What are the payment terms?
50% is paid upon booking, and the remaining 50% on site. If you cancel less than 3 days before the start of the trip, the deposit is non-refundable.
Do I need to sign anything before the tour?
